Heather did an amazing job! With a combination of COVID and a hip replacement I was well over due for a cleaning. However, she went about cleaning in a gentle, systematic and kind way answering questions that I had along the way. I also felt very safe as she was covered with PPE and also handed me glasses as well. We were new to each other as my years long hygienist, Celeste, retired but I felt like we were and will be a good fit. I would also like to commend the office in general on the very safe adjustments that have been made for patient safety. (I’m a little peeved that there is no longer hot chocolate but I think that I will survive! -=) I’ll just have to drink twice as much once this damn virus passes us by...sometime in the near future, hopefully.) I was impressed with the whole Covid-19 precautions when I walked in and when in the dental chair. I was late in arriving; I thought my appointment was at 1 p.m., but it was at 12:30 p.m. However, I was given an appointment at 1:30 p.m. for which I was very grateful. The hygienist who was assigned to do my cleaning was new to me, and apparently works there a couple days a week. She was very pleasant, courteous and professional. However, she was not as gentle with the plaque removal instrument (I'm not sure what it's called) as I would have liked, and it seemed to me as though she was pressing deeper into the gums with the "pocket measuring instrument" (again, I don't know what it's called) than was necessary. Maybe that's what she's supposed to do, but this time it hurt at times, and it hasn't in the past. A little lighter touch with the instruments, especially in areas of my mouth that have had surgical work done on them in the past, would be helpful and less painful. I hope this is helpful. I have been a patient at AIP since 1989; first under the care of Dr. Levi and then Dr. Schuman. Over the past six months I've had appointments for regularly scheduled cleanings and had the opportunity to meet Dr. Saqqal and Dr. Basali. At my most recent visit significant decay was detected that will require extraction of a tooth, the growing of new bone, and ultimately the placement of an implant. Several years ago, this same procedure was performed on a different tooth by Dr. Shuman. Given the change in Dr. Schuman's role at AIP, the aforementioned procedure will be performed by Dr. Basali. I mention all of the above because it evidences values and practices that I've consistently experienced at AIP over the past thirty-one years. First, the value of caring; perhaps most recently demonstrated by the significant efforts AIP has made to ensure patient and staff health, safety, and well-being during the pandemic. Long before the pandemic AIP doctors and staff always showed, as they do now, concern for patient comfort in the broadest sense of the word...from the welcoming smiles that have greeted me upon entering the office, the frequent refrain, "How are you doing," asked by hygienists and doctors, to the massaging treatment chairs that serve to relax. Second, is the value of science and expertise. Every procedure that I've had from regular cleanings to gum surgery and implants has been based on current research, proven best practices, and performed by highly skilled professionals. Third, is the value of responsiveness. In thirty-one years every phone call, question, billing issue (seldom as they've been) and request that I've made has been promptly addressed. I haven't always heard what I might have liked but I never waited long for a response or a careful, detailed explanation. I'm not looking forward to my upcoming extraction, growing bone and getting another implant. However, I am confident that Dr. Basali brings to AIP the same standard of care, expertise and responsiveness that I've been fortunate enough to experience these many years!

Terrrific. First, Dr. Saqqal enabled me to get my procedure done the same day as my diagnostic exam, avoiding the need for another three-hour round trip. I thought he and his assistant did a great job. They seemed to be extremely careful in all aspects of the procedure. I have had surprisingly little pain since the procedure. Everyone I encountered in the office was extremely friendly and helpful.

I called Associates In Periodontics in sort of emergency situation and the response was swift. I was seen within 6 hours, and it was a very positive experience. When I walked in, every one of the team was pleasant, accommodating, and flexible, professionalism all around. COVID practices easy to follow and visible. Heather’s technique is excellent. No discomfort with ultrasonic cleaning, liked how she switched between ultrasonic and tools, liked how she gently tapped my shoulder as she worked - hard to describe this - but was grounding/ a method of communication. Good description of what she was observing etc. I’ve not ever requested a specific hygienist but now I will request Heather. :) Oh - also want to add that the manual cleaning/brush/gum massage :) was like a bonus!! - -

Once again, my experience at the office is so gratifying. Who looks forward to a visit to the dentist? No one really. However, when I go there I feel like I am in such capable and caring hands. The hygenists are extremely thorough and are not rushing to get you out of there to get to the next patient. They take time to explain issues that you may have and coach you on how to best care for your teeth. The office staff are great as well and the steps and procedures they are taking during the COVID cover every base.

Even though having my teeth cleaned isn't a fun experience, having such professional and friendly staff makes it easier. Also having the same hygienist every time is a plus. I was glad to see the new safety procedures as I entered the office. Cindy came to get me right on time and was, as always very friendly. Thorough and appreciated pandemic PPE in a very difficult situation involving the very activities that spread coronavirus -- as I knew it would be, thanks to Dr. Schumann. Cyndi goes above and beyond every time with her cleaning, observations, scheduling, problem-solving and sincere friendliness. Two areas worth improving: I met three people in the hallways and their were four of us in the waiting room plus two staff. I realize you're still readjusting for 10 weeks of closing. Secondly, when I was making a decision whether to buy my own dental insurance as my husband's coverage ended, I used info given me my your office and my dentist to make the decision. I was told my original 7 April 2020 appt. would cost $169 out of pocket. When I discussed it before my 20 August appt I was told it has been $172 for the past 12 years. When I got to the billing window I was charged $188 including PPE. I tweak in admin. communication training should straighten that out.

Dr Aboosi and his assistants kept me informed about what they were doing and were respectful and gentle. Periodontal surgery is not an enjoyable process however the care with which I was treated made all the difference. I especially appreciated the check in call from Dr Aboosi the evening following my procedure. Additionally I appreciated the massaging treatment chair and the option of listening to music through headphones during the surgery.

Care from Celeste was fine per usual, including her educating me in proper care between hygiene appointments. She is especially expert in the use of the ultrasonic method. Everyone in the office, from the receptionist to the hygienist to the periodontist, was cheerful, friendly, skillful, and efficient. It was a pleasurable experience.

The Dr was very thorough and spent time explaining what he would do and then what the next process would be. The only downsides are that your practice is not in my insurance network and your price is above the going price in the area in some of the procedures.

Dr. Schumann's office went out of their way to coordinate an appointment on a day I also had a Doctor's appointment. I live an hour away and this saved me a trip into Burlington. Communication with the office was easy and they responded quickly to my questions. I am very pleased with my new oral appliance. I am also pleased that my insurance covered this vital appliance for my sleep apnea. At my office visit I was treated with patience and respect. Loved the massage in the chair. The teaching about the new appliance was easy to understand and I appreciated the additional written instructions. An added bonus is being able to get my previous device recalibrated for my use as a back up. I am pleased to know they are following me in this treatment of my sleep apnea. I know I can always call the office if I have questions.

You go the extra mile to make your patients feel comfortable and make them feel like they matter. You all have very pleasant personalities the laughter and joking makes me feel at ease and fit right in. Like family. Not to mention that the procedure itself is professional and done with ease or so you make it seem. Might I suggest that next time I arrive while I’m seated in the massage chair a glass of wine or a Mimosa. Long drive for me but you always make it a nice enjoyable experience.

As a dental hygienist, I know what to expect when I walk into a dental office. Dr. Shuman and the professionals he works with are very knowledgeable and courteous. The hygienist spent time talking to me before doing the cleaning, pointing out how small patches of skin peeled off as a result of an ingredient in toothpaste. I left with a list of toothpastes that are free from this. It was an educational effort that was of interest to me. She also tested gum tissue throughout and affirmed no bleeding, that I was taking pretty good care overall.

I have been going to AIP ever since I moved to Vermont 26 years ago. AIP was recommended by my periodontist in Boston and I’m so glad he did. I’ve been very pleased and would highly recommend this office to anyone.

First, my appointment was on time. This is very telling. Often when you wait repeatedly in the same office, the office is either mismanaged, or doesn’t value a patient’s time. The receptionist was extremely friendly. The Dr. Assistant explained what was needed and why, was upbeat and happy. Dr. Schuman is extremely personable, and clearly compassionate. His explanation of the procedure I will need was in language a lay person can easily grasp and not professional mumbo-jumbo. He did not appear rushed or over booked at anytime. On the contrary, I felt he and his staff had all the time in the world for me! I highly recommend Dr. Schuman.

Met the new periodontist - really liked him. Other doctor I’ve seen before always touches my arm or shoulder, and I don’t like being touched. The new guy was warm, smiling, and just gave a handshake. Hope to work with him again. Also learned a new way to brush my teeth after being told by another hygienist at this same office to do it very differently years ago. Wish I had been told this new way back then.

Every time I come to AIP, I am amazed how courteous and professional everyone is. The receptionist is always upbeat and friendly, the doctors really care and Meagan my hygienist is so conscientious and always gives me helpful instruction on my home care. Whenever I’ve gotten a little off track, she detects the problem right away and shows me exactly what the issue is, and how to improve. Two visits ago, I had a 5 mm pocket on a back tooth- She showed me what I needed to do, and by this last visit, it was totally back to normal. I feel so well cared for at AIP. When I first starting coming, I was struggling unsuccessfully to ward of periodontal disease, and it was really making me self conscience. I’m so grateful for all their help in turning it around. I shouldn't have to wait until August 10 for an appointment that was originally scheduled for March. That's five months from my original appointment. Jackie said it was too much work for you to reschedule people, but you managed to reschedule everyone who got bumped. You changed me twice. There will likely be some of your patients who get seen twice before I get seen once. Why not increase your hours?

I strongly recommend this practice; Dr. Shuman is very focused on saving teeth - always very professional and pleasant. The hygienist I have been seeing is also top-notch, able to answer all my questions directly and clearly, has a very good touch when cleaning, is thorough and professional at every session, and very personable as well. I would only ask the practice to advise patients more on the benefits of avoiding refined sugar.

Explaining what's going on with my implant .

There is a reason I make the drive from Montpelier to South Burlington four times a year to get periodontal cleanings and check ups. The doctors are involved in every aspect of my care. I have been lucky enough to have the same hygienist for almost fifteen years. Megan is wonderful; she has gentle hands and advice/ guidance that is always spot on. Staff was very friendly. I had arrived early and was seen very shortly after I arrived with very little wait time. Dr. Shuman examined the present condition of my tooth giving me the opportunity to ask questions. The hygienist who took care of me this visit was excellent and encouraged my progress in the care of my gums/teeth following 6 weeks of radiation and chemotherapy for oral cancer. Comfortable, professional, educational and even Celtic music! I have had this procedure done in a different state several years ago. This was hands down the best experience I could have had under the circumstances.

I really like coming to Assoc. in Periodontics! Every one is so friendly and I feel like I receive really good care. Everything is clean and neat and I have no fear of germs spreading. Surgeries I have had at Assoc.in Periodontics have been very successful. I feel that the doctor I see is very knowledgeable and cares about my treatment. Service was excellent. Dental hygentist was knowledgeable and put me at ease and it was painless. A bonus when getting your teeth cleaned. Dr. Schuman checked my teeth at the completion of the cleaning, which other dentists do not do. Very excellent work.

Always a pleasant experience, especially with the massaging dental chair and the soothing music in the background. The dental hygienist was very cognizant of my sensitivities with regard to my teeth and gums while cleaning my teeth, adjusting her dental equipment accordingly, and also my sensitivity to light by giving me dark glasses to wear. I received very good instructional information on how to better take care of my teeth and gums at home with use of a rubber tip brush and we discussed the advantages of using a water pik device.

Celeste is awesome!! She makes a difficult experience easier to get through.

I was extremely nervous prior to the procedure. It was of great benefits to be put in a chair that had massage, given a blanket, and headphones with calming music. I suffer from anxiety, especially when it comes to dental procedures, so I really appreciated the extra touches that helped me relax.

I was seen without a long wait. The hygienist was affable, extremely thorough, and made several recommendations including the use of a waterpik because of tight spaces inaccessible to flossing.

ASIDE FROM THE OFFICE BEING IMPECCABLY CLEAN, THE OFFICE SET UP WAS GREAT. THE BLANKETS WERE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED. THE ONLY THING YOUR OFFICE WAS MISSING THAT MY PRIOR DENTIST HAD WAS TV/MOVIE OPTIONS (WHICH ARE NOT A DEAL BREAKER FOR ME). I RECEIVED A FANTASTIC CLEANING FROM MEGHAN AND LOOK FORWARD TO RETURNING. Most dental offices are filled with the sound of drills and very little conversation. This office is full of laughter, staff that seems truely interested in your comfort, and go all out to make you feel comfortable.

I had my usual productive and pleasant twice a year periodontal cleaning a few weeks ago. Cyndee cleaned my teeth and did her customary thorough job, explaining various findings and ideas. Dr. Shuman checked me and discussed options. It was all very clear. I am grateful to have care from this team. Thank you!

Dr. Shuman was exceptional. He was calm and explained everything to me very clearly. He did not rush or make me feel like he was in a hurry even though I'm sure there were other patients he needed to care for. I highly recommend him. The staff was also very nice.
